For those with horses:

-
You do not have to have a specific breed or registered horse to be on the team

-
Your horse can be of any age and any skill level

-
You are not required to have ridden stock horses previously and you can be of any skill level to be on the team and to join practices.

-
We are here to help you regardless of you or your horse's current skills or background - our goal is to help you improve!

-
If you have specific behavior concerns about your horse, please come talk to the coach or the officers so that we can best assist you

For those without horses:

-
Unfortunately, CSU does not provide horses for team members. If you do not have your own horse you can still join the team as a non-riding member.

-
A big goal for the team this year is building knowledge about aspects of the industry such as events, divisions, conformation/breeding, and developing connections and professional skills. All of this knowledge greatly benefits both our riding and non-riding members.

-
Non-riding members are a crucial component of ensuring our team is able to put on our annual Fall Silver Jubilee show, as well as enable us to attend other school events such as involvement fairs, tabling, and fundraising events.

-
If you are interested in leasing a horse for the season, please talk to our coach or officers and we might be able to find an opportunity for you.
Points Team
The Points Team is a team of 4 put together to compete at collegiate shows whose collective points count toward our Team's overall points. You can be competitive in any division to be a part of the points team, and you don't have to be on the points team to compete! The only difference is that anyone on the points team will have their entry fees paid for by the club
We do not have tryouts to join unless you are wanting to join the Points Team which is highlighted below.
Tryouts
Tryouts will be held at the beginning of every semester
For tryouts, we will be evaluating you on the following criteria:
- Your current skill level as well as your horse's current skill level
-Your attitude, positivity and willingness to learn (we have been evaluating this since the beginning of the year)
- Your commitment to the team and ability to attend regular practices

As we work towards building up our points team it is important to remember spots on the points team are not guaranteed throughout the year. To remain on the points team you have to maintain your attendance, as well as how often you bring your horse to practice. Trying out for the points team lets us know you are wanting to show on the points team. If you do not initially make it on the points team, you can still serve as an alternate and have an opportunity to show on the team in the future
The reason for this is:
-
Not all horses are prepared to show at any given time and not every rider is able to go to every show. If a points team rider needs to sit out a show, there will be an open spot on the points team for a show, and another rider may take their place
-
Everyone is working to get better. Even if you or your horse isn't prepared to show now, trying out tells us where you are at and where you need to improve to make the points team in the future. Our goal is to help you get ready to show.
-
If a points team rider isn't maintaining the requirements to be on the points team, another rider who is can take their place.

The purpose of tryouts is for us to know where your current skills are, how to place you appropriately at shows, and how to best match your skills with other riders to build the most competitive team. Tryouts also lets us know who is committed to trying to show this year as the points team will have their entry fees covered.
FAQS
What kind of experience is required?
No experience is required! We have a large variety of skill level on the team, goals and training will be tailored to you and your horse's ability.
What do I need to do to join?
All we need is for you to sign our 3 waivers and bring an up to date coggins with you to practice (or email them to us), and then you're good to go! Waivers are down below
Do you need your own horse?
No! But we do not have any school horses, so to compete or ride in on practices you will need your own horse. Participation is not limited by this though, we have lots of ways to get involved as a non-riding member!
Boarding on campus? Trailering?
There is no boarding provided at Pickett arena unfortunately, but send us an email and we can put in you touch with boarding facilities nearby if you are looking! Same with transportation, you will need to have your own rig to get to practices/shows, or you can carpool with other members!
Entry fees?
You will pay your own entry fees for shows UNLESS you tryout for and get onto the Points Team
